System Installation

Top  Previous  Next

This section discusses how to install EasyHL7 for developers or for evaluation.  See the section on Redistribution and Licensing for information on how to create installations for your customers.

**A note for people running Non-English versions of MS Windows.  The EasyHL7 components have only been functionally certified in English and Dutch.  While we know that users running "Unicode Only" language versions of MS Windows (Like Chinese or Arabic) will NOT be able to use the components, we have not functionally certified other language versions.  If you are running a Non-English version of MS Windows and encounter problems with the EasyHL7 components, contact support@hermetechnz.com.

To install:

1.Extract the zip file EasyHL7System.zip that you downloaded from www.hermetechnz.com into a folder on your hard drive, being sure to take note of exactly where that is.
2.There will be a sub-folder in the folder you created in step called 'Install'.  Browse to that folder in windows explorer and double click the file 'EasyHL7Toolbox.msi' (alternatively you may click 'Start' then 'Run', etc from the windows start menu).  You must have adequate rights on your computer (or network) to be able to install software.  We recommend that you run EasyHL7.exe immediately after installation.
3.Follow the prompts in the setup program and install the software.
4.A program group called EasyHL7 was created.  Click 'EasyHL7.exe' to run the sample program.  The first time you run the program, it prompts you to install the default vendor definition files.  You should do this at once as well to complete the basic installation (see System Configuration).

Post Installation

Registration and Product Activation:

All EasyHL7 systems install in 'DEMO' mode.  All of the objects are fully functional but there will be a 'nag' screen displayed periodically.  Also, you may not generate your own runtime license files while in 'DEMO' mode.  After you have followed the installation instructions above, to register EasyHL7, run EasyHL7.exe and from the 'File' menu select 'Registration Information' to view the Registration details.  If the computer has an internet connection you can now click 'Online Activation', if not follow the instructions outlined below.

Make a note of your product id (shown above), then go to the EasyHL7 web site.  If you have already purchased your system, log in with your customer ID that you selected at that time, OR click on 'Buy Now' and purchase the desired number of EasyHL7 developer licenses (you will then choose your Customer ID and password).

Once logged into the HermeTech website click on 'Product Activation' and follow the instructions by entering your product ID (as shown above) and following the prompts.  Upon completing this process, you should have copied the product key to the windows clipboard, if you have then click 'Unlock System'.

Activating the product on a computer without Internet Access

1. Make note of the Product ID on the computer you wish to activate.
2. On a computer with internet access go to the EasyHL7 website (www.hermetechnz.com) log in, go to 'Product Activation' and generate a key for the product ID.
3. Copy that key to the windows clipboard, open Notepad and paste the key into Notepad and save the file.
4. Copy that file to a CD, Floppy, USB Drive etc and physically take it to the target computer (or email it to someone at the location where the target computer is located).
5. Back at the original computer (the one you are activating), open the file, and copy the key to the windows clipboard.
6. Now follow the steps above, eliminating all of the internet related steps.

The Development license is valid for only a single computer, you will need to repeat these steps to retrieve license files from HermeTech for every computer on which you wish to install a Development license of EasyHL7.
