BluePlus16Creating a New Template

Creating a new Document Template is extremely simple to do. Just look for the (BluePlus16) icon in the Toolbars and Menusanimatedlink to open the New Template Window.

When Creating new templates you have 5 different choices.

Create a Template using the Default HTML Document

This option creates a new document template using the "Default" Template HTML which is embedded in the Template Editor. It produces a short HTML document which is mostly just rubbish for you to change and mold into your actual document. The Default template shows examples of basic usage like inserting HL7 data using the ##HL7...## shorthand tag, embedding images and using images in <style> tags for a watermark using the Image Library and how to insert a PDF header and Footer.

From MS Word

Create a Template From a Microsoft Word Document

You can literally "draw" your HL7 Document Templates in Microsoft Word and then use the resulting document (.docx or .doc) as the basis for creating your HL7 Document Templates. Our "Word to HTML" conversion typically does an excellent job of converting MS Word to Template HTML. Note that MS Word DOES NOT have to be installed on the same computer as the HL7 Notepad for this to work. You can create your MS Word documents on another computer and then copy (or share) them with the computer running the HL7 Notepad.

From Rich Text

Much like MS Word you can also use WordPad to "draw" your HL7 Document Templates in a Rich Text (RTF) document and then use that as the basis for creating your HL7 Document Templates. Also, as with MS Word, our "RTF to HTML" conversion typically does an excellent job of converting Rich Text to Template HTML.

Importing HTML Files

Create a Template From an Existing HTML File

You can use almost any 3rd party HTML editing program to create your Templates as well. Just make sure that you follow the HTML Rules for UltraPort HL7 Document Templates. There are so many wonderful 3rd party WYSIWYG HTML designers available that we purposely did not try to include one in our Template Editor module. Our reasoning is that experienced HTML developers already have their favorite editor and we're certainly not going to be able to change their minds, and for novices, nothing that we could create could really compare to other products which have been around for years and whose sole purpose is working with HTML.

Import Other Templates

Import a Template from another HL7 Template Library

Use this option to import a template from another HL7 Template Archiveanimatedlink. For instance if you've downloaded something from the Samples and Examples area you would use this option. When you create a new template by importing another ALL required internal resources are also automatically imported as well. This includes image library images, custom colors, publisher settings, etc.

Other methods of creating new document templates

Cloning an existing template within the same Library. Just look for the (Clone an object (Template or Library)) icon in toolbars and menusanimatedlink. In the Create New Template the Import a Template from another HL7 Template Library option does not allow you to select a template from the library you currently have open. So if you've created a great template and want to copy it and tweak it a bit for use with another vendor for example. Then you just use the "Clone" option. It will create a new template in your library which is an exact copy in all but name of the original.

Importing Template HTML from another source. You use this option when you have an existing Template and you want to completely replace your existing Template HTML. For instance if you're using MS Word to draw your Templates you can initially create the Template from your MS Word document (see above), test it, then continue to tweak your MS Word document using this option over and over again until you get the results you're looking for.
