File Types

It's important to know the types of files you will be dealing with when working with HL7 Document Templates.

FAQ (Click to Enlarge)

Template Libraries, Template Archives, Stand-Alone Templates. What's the difference?

Template Libraries

Template library files will have a file extension of HL7L and are a data store which contains 1 or more HL7 document templates and all of their related properties (like embedded HL7 messages, publisher settings etc), an embedded image library of images and custom colors used in those templates, and a backup store of Template checkpoints. Template libraries can only be created or modified in the UltraPort HL7 Notepadanimatedlink (the Template Designer Software). Template Libraries have an Archive Type of "UltraPort HL7 Template Library". The Archive Type can be seen in the Library Properties Panel of the main editor window.

Stand-Alone Templates

Stand-Alone Template files will have a file extension of HL7T and are a READ-ONLY data store which contains only 1 HL7 document template and an embedded image library which contains ONLY the images referenced in the template's HTML source code. Stand-Alone templates are created by exporting them from a Template Library which can be done from the Library Properties Panel or from the Utilities menu (The Utilities button on a toolbar) in the Template Properties Panel. Stand-Alone templates have an Archive Type of "Stand-Alone UltraPort HL7 Document Template".

Stand-Alone templates are used by other 3rd party software or APIs which publish UltraPort HL7 Document Templates (like the UltraPort HL7 Postmasteranimatedlink).

Template Archives

The phrase Template Archive is interchangeable and refers to EITHER a Template Library OR a Stand-Alone Template file differentiated only by the Archive Type. The Archive Type can be seen in the Library Properties Panel of the main editor window.
